The quote from Jeff Wall “The photographer is either a hunter or a farmer “, (Wall, in Horne, 2012) has made me think about who I am as a photographer. I think that most photographers would class themselves as a “hunter” someone trying to capture that moment of the real. With a fair few classing their selves as a ‘farmer’ cultivating and building on the moment over time.
There are a few photographers that fall into both such as Tom Hunter. Who uses the approach of the “hunter” with the cultivating and building of moments with the use of tableau. Constructing other meanings into his work.
The whole concept of “hunter” and the “farmer ” has made me think about the construction of my work that I am developing and that what category I fall into as a photographer.
The project I am working on at the moment falls into the category of the Farmer. With the way, I have constructed the images over time using the projection of the external world and the direction of the sitter and positioning of the camera and objects within each space.

I also feel, as a photographer that I also fall into the category of the “hunter’, I do work in that ethos with my other work by tracking down a moment and letting unfold in front of me without any direction or construction from myself.
I planning to bring more of the “hunter” side of my work into the project. Balancing both the “hunter” and “Farmer” styles of photography in my work.
